History

In 1888, the Duke of Devonshire presented nine acres of land to the town of Keighley in celebration of Queen Victoria’s Jubilee, resulting in the development of Devonshire Park. The formal opening to the public on 4th September was marked by typical late Victorian park features, including curving pathways, islands of formal planting, an ornamental lake, and a broad gravel terrace leading up to a bandstand.

Natural history

Wildlife species known to frequent the park include hedgehogs, red foxes, wood mice, ducks, and herons. The park also has a range of native trees, including ash, beech, hawthorn, and willow.
