A striking new piece of giant land art has been created in Holden Park, Oakworth, providing a spectacular backdrop for an upcoming community celebration.
The artwork is a collaboration between Worth Valley Young Farmers Club and Fields of Vision, with support from Keighley and Bradford Councils. Installed on the former estate of Sir Isaac Holden-best known as the inventor of the Lucifer Matchstick-the artwork brings a touch of Bradford City of Culture to the village.
The installation will set the stage for ‘Man of the Match’ Celebration Event, taking place on the evening of Friday 10 October. This free public event runs from 6pm to 7.15pm, just before the arrival of participants in Sue Ryder Hospice Starlight Hike 10K, who will pass through the park as part of their route.
“We have done many land arts since 2014 but it’s nice to do our first in Oakworth and make people aware of the ‘Man of the Match’ in the process” said William Bishop, member of Worth Valley Young Farmers Club and part of the art team. “We hope the artwork will encourage people to sign up as Friends of Holden Park and also provide another reason to take part in the Starlight Hike”.

The event is free, family-friendly, and promises a unique cultural experience for the community.
