Extreme Heat Warning – Stay Safe Around Water

With temperatures rising across the Bradford District, it can be tempting to head to rivers, lakes and reservoirs to cool off. However, we are urging everyone to stay out of open water in our parks and woodlands.

While open water may appear calm and inviting, it can be extremely dangerous—even on the hottest days.

The risks you might not see

  • Cold water shock can affect your breathing within seconds of entering the water
  • Strong currents and sudden depth changes can pull even strong swimmers under
  • Hidden hazards such as rocks, debris and weeds can cause injury or entrapment
  • Poor water quality can lead to illness and infection

Stay safe

👉 Please do not enter open water and help us keep our parks safe for everyone.
👉 Keep a close eye on children and discourage swimming or paddling in lakes and rivers.

We want everyone to enjoy Bradford District’s beautiful green spaces safely during the warm weather.
