20 May marks World Bee Day, a chance to recognise the vital role bees and other pollinators play in our environment—and in our everyday lives.
Bees are a crucial part of our survival, helping to pollinate the plants that produce much of the food we eat and supporting healthy, thriving ecosystems across the Bradford district.
🌼 Supporting Pollinators Through Relaxed Mowing
Across Bradford’s parks and green spaces, we are continuing our relaxed mowing approach to help create better habitats for wildlife.
By allowing areas of grass to grow longer and wildflowers to flourish, we are:
- 🌿 Providing essential food sources for bees and other pollinators
- 🐝 Creating safe habitats for wildlife to thrive
- 🌸 Boosting biodiversity across the district
These natural areas play an important role in helping pollinators survive and flourish.
🐝 Working with Local Beekeepers
We are also proud to support the work of the Bradford Beekeepers Association, based at Knowles Recreation Ground.
The association plays an important role in promoting beekeeping, education, and awareness of the importance of bees within our local communities.
Residents are encouraged to:
- Follow the Bradford Beekeepers Association on Facebook (3) Bradford Beekeepers Association | Facebook
- Visit their website to learn more about their work https://bradfordbeekeepers.co.uk/
- Find out how to get involved in supporting bees locally
🌿 How You Can Help
Everyone can play a part in supporting pollinators, whether that’s:
- Letting parts of your garden grow wild
- Planting pollinator-friendly flowers
- Avoiding pesticides where possible
Together, small actions can make a big difference.
Let’s work together to support bees and protect the natural environment—one meadow at a time.
