With the main planting season at an end here are few tips for keeping your young fruit trees happy and healthy at this time of year.

  1. Watering – With the wonderful Spring sunshine that has been beaming down on us lately the ground has become very dry.  It is most important that you keep these young trees hydrated. A general guideline is a bucket of water each week and potted trees usually require more unless its wet.
  1. Mulch – If you apply a generous amount of woodchip mulch to the base of the trees in a doughnut shape this can ease the burden of watering as the soil keeps its moisture when treated this way.
  1. Weeding – Whilst its wonderful to see new life exploding out at this time of year along with that sprouting weeds also make an appearance.

So now is a great time remove these along with any grass.  Applying woodchip as mentioned becomes a good assistant.
