Tue, 28 Jun 2011
The newly refurbished play area at Russell Hall Park was opened on the 23rd of June by Lord Mayor Councillor Naveeda Ikram. She was welcomed at the opening ceremony by children from Russell Hall School, who first requested that the play area was updated and also were consulted about the play area design, local residents and children, together with Queensbury Councillors Paul and Lynda Cromie and Council Officers involved in the new play area.
The play area, costing £90,000 includes new junior and toddler swings, a toddler multi play unit and play fence, springies and a dish roundabout whilst the junior equipment includes a ‘low rotator’ which can rotate faster or slower using centrifugal force, a large climbing unit with monkey bars and a 25m long aerial runway. The majority of the funding to build the play area came from section 106 contributions made by developers for local housing developments, with a £10,000 Ward Investment Fund contribution coming from the Ward Councillors.
